Bio

I am an alumnus of Rockwood High School, and was actually born in Rockwood, TN. I care very deeply about Rockwood and the surrounding communities. After graduating from Rockwood High School in 1993, which I graduated third in my class, I attended Tennessee Technological University on a music scholarship. While there, I was Phi Mu Alpha's Outstanding Musician (1997), performed with the Symphony Band, Troubadours, Bryan Symphony Orchestra, Golden Eagle Marching Band, Trouveres, Concert Band, University Orchestra, Ojay Cummings Big Band Sound, and Trombone Choir. While in the Tennessee Technological University Symphony Band, our ensemble was selected to perform at the M.E.N.C. national conference in Kansas City, Missouri in 1996.  I also got to play along with Jamey Aebersold, Bob Mintzer, Jim Ruppe, Tom Wolfe, Mark O'Connor, and Dennis Dotson.

While in college, I worked as a private instructor and low brass coach with Jackson County High School, Cumberland County High School, DeKalb County High School, Oakland High School, Roane County High School, and Cookeville High School.  Many of my students were selected as All State students in the state of Tennessee.  I also have had many students who went on to earn music scholarships throughout the state of Tennessee and the southeastern United States.  I also played at the Cumberland County Playhouse as principal trombonist in productions of "Hello, Dolly!", "The Music Man", and "My Fair Lady".

After graduation, I accepted a position with Lewis County High School in Hohenwald, Tennessee as Co- Band Director. While there, I developed a strong competitive marching band that had won championships throughout Tennessee and Alabama.  In my three years there, my bands were ranked in the top ten bands in Division Two for two of those three years.  I moved into the head position my second and third years there, and eventually ended up back home here in Rockwood. The band program has doubled in size since my return.  The band has also won honors throughout East and Middle Tennessee.  For seven of the years that I have been at Rockwood, the band program has been ranked in the top ten of marching bands from Division 1A schools.  The Rockwood band has also been honored as the USSBA Tennessee State Champion for 2011.  While teaching, I have earned honors as WBIR Educator of the Week. I have been recognized twice by the Governor's School for the Arts as an Outstanding Teacher. I have been honored twice as a Who's Who of American Teachers, Who's Who in America, and a nominee for Disney's Outstanding Teacher program.  I was also selected as Rockwood High School's Teacher of the Year for school year 2010-2011. I have also had the honor of being a past president of TSSBDA.

I hold memberships in NEA, TEA, RCEA, ETSBOA, MENC, Phi Mu Alpha, and TSSBDA. I am also a Jupiter sponsored artist.
