S.W.P.B.P.

SWPBS is a team-based, proactive system used to create and maintain a safe, positive, learning environment for all students and school personnel. SWPBP is used in the classroom and in non-classroom settings such as: on school campus grounds, in the hallways,in the cafeteria, on the bus, and during extra-curricular activities. This is achieved by teaching, rewarding, and giving behavioral support to students as they learn the positive, social skills that are expected.

This team-based program is meant to improve student behavior which in effect increases effective, positive classroom teaching time. It also reduces the amount of time a student may spend in the office due to office discipline referrals. A student spending time in the office for bad behavior is missing out on instructional time in the classroom. National research indicates that the less time teachers have to spend on correcting inappropriate behaviors, the more time they spend on teaching material which will increase the students' learning. More time on task should result in higher Gateway, End of Course, and standardized test results.

Currently a thirteen member committee (consisting of four students, six teachers, two administrators, and a community member) has been trained in defining and implementing desired, positive behaviors for our school. Three rules have been established: BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL, and BE ON TIME. Following these three rules will increase a student's success in school, in society and on the job. (BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL, and BE ON TIME) are posted in each classroom and throughout the school. As a person enters the front hallway of Rockwood High School he/she is greeted with bulletin boards that reinforce our rules. During morning announcements, the principal of Rockwood High School, Mr. Reed, reminds students of one of the three rules.

To reinforce these behaviors, students caught doing a good job following the rules are given GREEN CARDS. Students may use these reward cards to attend activities such as ball games and dances free, or they may save their cards and buy large school spirit items located in the front lobby. Rockwood High School is always looking for community ideas, support and donations to use with the positive, reward system.

Ask your student about the three school rules. You may find that he/she has several "green cards" that he/she has earned by being a responsible or respectful student.
