NASHVILLE – At its annual awards ceremony, the Tennessee Department of Education proudly awarded Rockwood High School with STEM Designation! This award recognizes their excellence in delivering high-quality, integrated STEM education.

By earning this distinction, Rockwood High School serves as a model for others across the state, as it reflects the school’s dedication to creating a comprehensive, student-centered learning environment that emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world application.

Rockwood High School has worked very hard over the last two years to implement STEM into everyday life. STEM designation was the brainchild of former principal Leanne Malicoat, who inspired staff and students alike to change our philosophies about teaching and learning. Even though Mrs. Malicoat retired, RHS has worked tirelessly over the last year under the helm of Dr. Scotty Herrell to continue cultivating a culture of STEM. Our perseverance paid off, and we are SO THANKFUL to TNDOE for recognizing our hard work!

"I am so proud of the students, staff, and everyone involved in the STEM designation process. I am honored to serve a school that cares so much about its students and community. Thank you for preparing our kids for a bright future." - Larry Brackett, Roane County Schools Board Member
